What are heat pump tumble dryers and how do they work?

Heat pump dryer technology conserves and re-uses hot air to absorb moisture from clothes (whereas in a condensation dryer cold air is drawn in from the environment to cool it down). During the drying process the hot air is circulating through the garments in the drum and the moisture is cooled down and removed via evaporator.

This method is extremely energy-efficient because hot air is re-used to heat garments, drying at lower temperatures in comparison to conventional dryers which use energy intensive heating elements.

Most tumble dryers are based on a two-step fluff cleaning system.

1) A door filter which should be cleaned after every single load. Here is the first hurdle: many people tend to do this rather irregularly. Only 50% of dryer owners normally do it after every load. This has a negative impact on drying results and efficiency as energy consumption is higher if filters are not cleaned after every load or at least regularly.

2) The condenser filter, located at the bottom, should be cleaned from fluff as well. How often you have to do that normally depends on the manufacturer and the model. With the EasyClean filter you only need to clean the filter approximately every 20** loads or every 60 hours of drying.
